Ethical, Organic, Sustainable

We Are Ethical

As a New Zealand Registered Charitable Trust and members of the Fair Trade Association (FTAANZ) we are committed to providing fair and empowering employment under excellent working conditions, which includes:

  • Living wages with the opportunity to earn matched savings every month
  • A 30 hour work week to ensure plenty of time for family and life outside of work
  • Full sewing training covering every step of the garment making process
  • Additional training in areas such as reading, writing and budgeting
  • Paid holiday leave, sick leave, maternity care and overtime pay
  • The opportunity to care for children on site or assistance to send them to school
  • A well ventilated, light and beautiful working environment

We Are Organic

ReCreate's fabrics are certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), as well as denim sourced through the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI), so you know that our garments are kind to the environment as well as the people who make them. GOTS is the leading global organic standard and includes benefits such as:

  • A guaranteed minimum of 95% certified organic fibres
  • Never using genetically modified seeds or harmful fertilisers in the growing process
  • The sustainable use of land to maintain a healthy balance in the soil
  • Prohibiting the use of harmful chemicals and bleaches at all stages of the process
  • Strong procedures for minimising waste during production
  • Recyclable paper and cardboard packaging materials used when shipping
  • Fair employment and good conditions for all workers from the farms through to the factories

We Are Sustainable

ReCreate is continually moving towards a more sustainable way of doing business, with regular reviews of our environmental management plan. It is our aim to minimise impact on the planet while providing fair employment that enables a better future for producers. Strategies for sustainability include:

  • Only using 100% recycled, recyclable, reusable, biodegradable poly mailers
  • Only using recyclable paper and cardboard packaging
  • Packing our garments in recycled, reusable cotton bags
  • Only creating products consisting of organic, natural, recycled or sustainably sourced material
  • Reusing fabric offcuts from garment production to minimise waste
  • Monitoring and minimising water and electricity usage in our garment production centre
  • Donating and reusing all garment samples
